[HarderFaster] Christopher Lawrence & Sean J Morris – Rock It

Christopher Lawrence and Sean J Morris team up for Rock It, a tough and uncompromising trance track on the American label Pharmacy Music. With a remix from Reaky for support, this is a good’un.

With Rock It, there’s a slight whiff of psychedelica about it. The beats are hard and beefy with an unsettling wibbly bassline and evil-sounding noises in the background helping the track along. The vox sample is okay and is used sparingly to give the instrumentation the room to do its work. When the sample is used, it merely helps the track rather than hindering it. The structure is nice, the beats are suitably beefy and the whole general atmosphere is one of pure uplifting trance. Its also nice to see the US pushing trance. Well, what with luminaries of the scene like Armin, Above & Beyond and Ferry taking the music over there, it should come as no surprise really.

With the remix, Reaky adopts a more psytrance approach to the package; oozing moodiness and sparse, marching, beats, it brings a sense of organised madness to the party. The structure moves in a more breaks formation halfway through before heading back into 4/4 territory. For a remix, this is good and its the version I’m digging the most; mainly for its moodiness and its general quirkiness. I’m often finding myself just nodding my head to the rockin’ beats, sometimes unconsciously. others not. Its a nice alternative to an okay tune.
