[TranceSound] Christopher Lawrence Interview

When it comes to having an exclusive interview with the like of Christopher Lawrence, you would expect him to provide you with short answers and not to many in-depth details on what kind of person he is or the things he likes the most, but this is not the case. Being such a down to Earth person and also being so open minded, he makes the most out of this interview in particular. Never the less, being one of the most active Djs within the American northern hemisphere, with lots of experience in terms of live gigs and well known venues and being given such a huge recognition, I may easily say that I am glad and honoured of having such a close encounter with the a living legend. In our conversation we were talking about his true passion to music and his massive support given to the masses, people that would like to step on his shoes. This is what I call a true Helpful-by-Nature personality. I am delighted to present you my very first interview with an artist such as Christopher Lawrence himself.

1. Another floor-filler, “A Little Rush,” featuring Perfecto’s Suzie del Vecchio, semi-recently emerged, it’s also making its rounds on all major stores. Tell me about this new record, how did it even come to fruition ?

Christoper Lawrence: I had been working on a track and was almost done when my production partner on the track, Dave Audé, suggestedI listen to a track that Suzie had recently sung on. I loved her voice and sent her the track to see if she would be into singing on it. A week later she was in the studio. I was very happy with her vocals and lyrics. The track turned out great.

2. On the remix front, who’s “rushing the Olympic Torch” further ?

Christoper Lawrence: If you are asking me who I like for remixes, I think Sean J Morris is doing a great job, as is Reaky and Talla 2XLC.

3. Huge support from the likes of Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold, M.I.K.E aka Push, Suzie Solar, Kyau & Albert, Gareth Emery, Dave Seaman, Flash Bros, Bobina already. Anyone else ?

Christoper Lawrence: “A Little Rush” has gotten a lot of support from other DJs but the people on the dance floor are the ones who really love it. “A Little Rush” has been going down a storm every time I play it. It is great to see people respond well to a track that you have made.

4. Are there any other tracks and/or contributions on others’ works to look out for from you in the meantime ?

Christoper Lawrence: I just did a remix for Talla’s new track called “Dynamo” and another for Reaky on his upcoming “Magnesium Orchestra” release.

5. Coming from you, an artist with such huge magnitude within electronic music industry, reveal some artists do you want to work with and why ?

Christoper Lawrence: I would like to work with some of the hot new electro artists. I have a soft spot for the darker underground electro and I think the bass lines could lend themselves to sow cool tough trance. I have always wanted to work with Astrix, who I think is one of the best spy trance producers.

6. What artists are you listening to right now or else who’s in your top5 supporting list ?

Christoper Lawrence: Save the Robot, Ali Wilson, Jonathan Allyn, Interactive Noise and of course John 00 Fleming. Fergie & Sadrian and Gian Carlo are two new artists on my label that I am liking a lot.

7. I have heard about the new contest you are running! Great stuff for all bedroom Djs out there. Would you share some further details on that please ?

Christoper Lawrence: For the third anniversary I am running a Guest Mix contest in which the winner gets his or her guest mix played on the anniversary episode. All you have to do is create a sixty minute original mix and, by that, I mean it has to be your mix. Don’t just listen to a Joh 00 Fleming mix and copy it track for track and send it in! This is an fantastic opportunity for someone that probably wouldn’t get the chance to have their mix heard by a global audience on an established radio show or podcast to get. For more information people can get all the details at rushhourradio.net There have already been some amazing mixes turned in.

8. Are you going to be doing any tours to promote the show to a larger audience ?

Christoper Lawrence: Every event I do has the Rush Hour logo on promotions so the word is getting out there. I am actually looking at a branded night for Pharmacy Music, my record label. I have a lot of talented producers on the label and it would be a lot of fun to host nights based around the label and it’s artists.

9. Musically speaking, what type of “vibe” are you on ?

Christoper Lawrence: I am into underground trance, tech-trance and I have been really getting into the cool progressive psy-trance. There is some great music being produced out there. A lot of the cross genre tracks are interesting for example tough house and electro that work well in my sets.

10. Is there a future album in the making ?

Christoper Lawrence: Yes, I am currently working on a full length artist album. I have several tracks already finished and it is coming together quite well. I expect to have it finished by the end of summer but that all depends on my touring schedule which can always put a spanner in the works.

11. Who all did you enlist in regards to the album’s production ?

Christoper Lawrence: John 00 Fleming and I are working on a track right now so I would imagine that track will appear on the album in some form. Some of the tracks have been done with Dave Audé. He is who I did “A Little Rush” with. I have just finished a collaboration with Sean J Morris, one of the artists on Pharmacy Music, called “Rock It” which is a fantastic peak time banger. I am looking at doing a couple more vocal tracks to give the album some variety so their should be some surprises.

12. Besides music, is there anything else that you would like to get involved in or with ?

Christoper Lawrence: It is completely different than the music industry, but I just completed my CERT training. The Community Emergency Response Training program is a volunteer program which educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them for disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organisation, and disaster medical operations. CERT prepares you so that following an event such as an earthquake, fire, or terrorist attack you can provide emergency services in your community when professional responders are not immediately available to help. It is an international organisation so I would encourage people to look into it. The information is fascinating and the training is invaluable.

13. On a more serious note, how do you view the current climate of today’s Trance, or else EDM (Electronic Dance Music) artists. Are you content with it ?

Christoper Lawrence: I am excited about all the new talent and new music being created. I think this is a great time for creativity. Unfortunately this creativity is not always translating to the dance floors. It seems that more and more DJs are trying to play to the widest audience and in so doing just play the commercial hits from all genres. People on the dance floor are being short changed. They deserve better than big name DJs playing generic music.

14. Is there any message for our readers, especially the TranceSound.net members ?

Christoper Lawrence: I would just like to say thanks for your support and I’ll see you on the dance floor.
