[i:Vibes] Gian Carlo – Extraversion / Qualia

Fresh new beats off the front counter of Pharmacy Music with a double EP from Gian Carlo. Fusing together a techno and progressive base to deliver two very addictive trance moulded tunes you should pay attention of…

Just mention the name Christopher Lawrence to any trance music fan and they will understand the contribution to the scene over the past two decades his music has done to the scene. His very own label Pharmacy Music is his own brainchild to release the records he feels deserve letting loose into the public domain. The latest release is from a producer called Gian Carlo, not a name I know a lot about. He comes from New Orleans and his injection of electronic music at a very young age pushed him in the direction he travels now with his music. His talents have not gone unnoticed by Pharmacy who with this new double sided EP give Gian his debut release on the label. The only question you want answered; is this inaugural release on Pharmacy any good?

:: Extraversion

:: Qualia

The short answer to that is yes. Spread over the course of these two tracks is some steering beats and melody patterns that will ripple the sense. Extraversion is on the whole progressive at heart but it’s an energetic trip that throws all sorts of driving beats your way. It’s all in the bass line where the drive for this energy comes from as it builds up from the moment the first beat hits and the whole track sweeps along with an addictive rhythm. Breaking up from the groove the track does take a slight pause for air before smashing the silence once more with the bass line. This progressive approach and a mix of techier beats add a little bit of distinctive appeal to the usual trance formula.

Qualia is a different animal from the start. The whole sound of the record is lighter and the bass tone has a bit of buzz about. The percussion is sharp, crisp and the beat at the beginning drops a good thump to things. You can sense this one has a little bit more energy to it and after a nice build you’re treated to one of Gian’s ripping bass melodies. It’s bursting with something but it never reaches an uplifting peak, more just a progressive pattern but the key changes as the main track breaks are subtle but works well. It’s that melody which just dips down and then bursts back into life and the main beat and track start to gather pace again.

Conclusion:

Two very progressively structured trance tracks with a little tech and tough touch added. Gian’s production talent is highlighted with the smooth flow and polished nature of these two tracks and his knack for a perpetual melody is highlighted with this release. Check them’ out in the i:Vibes store as this one is out right now!
