[HarderFaster.net Review] Christopher Lawrence – Rush Hour: Best Of 2013

As 2013 nears it’s end, it is time to unveil the Best Of albums. This is Pharmacy’s effort, ably mixed by label boss Christopher Lawrence. As it’s Pharmacy, you can expect dark monochrome trance with essences of psy thrown in for good measure.

With Oberon, Reaky, Nick Sentience and Cylon along for the ride, Rush Hour promises a trip into the more cutting-edge side of the trance genre. That said, it isn’t a showcase of Pharmacy’s output itself but more of a look into what’s done it for Chris Lawrence’s radio show throughout the year. In that respect, Rush Hour is superbly put-together; there’s a nice ebb and flow to the thing. The album starts off progressively and then gathers pace as you head further into the mainframe.

Psytrance has risen in popularity recently; what with the arrival of Solarstone’s Pure trance movement and Activa’s dabbling in the genre but this is indeed pure unadulterated indulgence from start to finish. It is certainly a trip into the unknown if you’re not into the more “underground” style but for those of us who are, it is very much a masterpiece.

In fact, those who are still into the commercial side of trance, and by that I mean the watered-down “trance” such as Cascada or Ian Van Dahl for example, get a copy of this. And prepare to have your mind blown.
